Talking Vision is Vision Australia Radio’s flagship program, discussing the latest news and issues from a blindness and low vision perspective.

This week the host becomes the guest as Sam chats with Stella Glorie about his recent experiences at the 2023 Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix.

For Sam and the tens of thousands of other spectators, it’s a dream come true to see their favourite drivers heading around the track and finding out who will emerge as the winner in the end.

“It’s all about the racing on the Sunday, that’s the main event, that’s what a lot of people are there for.

“Seeing your favourite drivers and how they go is also great to watch, especially Australians like Oscar Piastri making it in F1, it’s always a nice thing to see Aussies do well on the world stage,” Sam said.

For some spectators who are blind or have low vision, heading along to watch the racing can come with a few apprehensions, for instance whether the experience will be accessible.

However, accommodations like viewing areas right next to the track and trackside radio meant spectators could keep up with everything going on, no matter their vision level.

“The angles to the track are fantastic, you can stand right next to the fence and the track is right there, you’re right in the action,” Sam said.

“As well as that, the trackside radio goes all around the track, you can hear that coming through the big speakers and that gives you all the info you need in real time.”
