It’s not every day you climb three stories and jump off a platform, or get stranded after a plane crash and have to work as a team to escape a labyrinth of challenges.  But that's exactly what a group of Vision Australia clients found themselves doing recently.

Meeting at the Swan Valley Adventure Centre, Perth, more than 20 people who were blind or had low vision, family members and support workers spent the day challenging themselves, overcoming fears, meeting new people and working as a team.

Divided into two teams the group were taken to the flying fox and the blackout zone where they had to rely on communication skills to navigate rope obstacles, heights and dark tunnels.

“We’ve been running these events for just over a year. It’s a great forum for people to get out and socialise and find out what Vision Australia in Perth can offer,” said regional business manager Donna Fahie.

Participant and Vision Australia client Tammey celebrated her birthday on the day and thanked everyone who arranged the outing.

“It was a wild day. I would do that again,” she said.

Vision Australia Perth client engagement events are run every two to three months, with varied activities. For more information phone the Perth office on 08 6246 4505.
